Wall Coverings

Pros and Cons of Wall Coverings in Your Home

Wall panelling is an affordable way to add aesthetic appeal and character to the walls in your home. Depending on your interior design tastes, it’s also a great way to subtly or boldly accentuate the style of your home. Since there are pros and cons to any type of home remodeling project, you should carefully consider whether wall paper, wall panelling or painting is right for your home before undertaking the remodel. However, if you’re ready to take the plunge.

What Are Wall Coverings?

They are any decorative covering for interior walls. They can come in a wide variety of designs, materials, and textures. Some types of wall panelling can be painted and repainted to match your changing tastes.

Pros of Wall Panelling, Wallpaper or Painting Your Home

Wall panelling is a stylish way to add a vintage vibe to your home while still keeping it fresh and modern. If you’re looking to create a rustic look in your home, wood panelling is the perfect choice. Painting is a relatively inexpensive way to give your home a new look. While the cost of wall paper will vary depending on the type you choose, it’s generally much less expensive than other types of interior remodels. Wall panelling or wall paper is a DIY project that can be completed in a single weekend.

Cons of Drastically Changing the Wall Coverings In Your Home

It can be a messy project. You’ll likely need to cover furniture and have plenty of cleaning supplies on hand to keep the project site clean. You’ll also want to close off rooms that are not part of the work site to avoid getting debris in your clean areas of your home. Whilst wall panelling can help reduce noise in your home by adding a bit of insulation, it can also trap heat inside your home. This can make your home feel stuffy in the warmer months, so you may want to consider additional air flow options in your home to combat this. Painting or wall papering won't cause these later issues.

Things to Consider Before Doing the Big Change

You should carefully consider your design choices before finalizing your plans and beginning the project. First, how permanent are the changes you want to make. Are they going to be a buyer objection when the time comes to sell? How easy will it be to make them appeal to buyers more? You’ll also need to consider the layout of your home. Is your taste in wall covering going to appeal to Buyers, down the track, when your home no longer suits your needs or is this home your 'forever' home and you just want it to reflect your tastes entirely so you can enjoy it, your way?
